Intro to Digital Forms – Stuff to do over the Thanksgiving Holiday…

November 21st, 2011 by Meg

1. Complete the “white cube / install / propose” assignment.

2. My WebSpace @UW – You should sign up for an account with your UW NET ID. You can use this free webspace provided to you by the university to complete the required assignments for this course. You will need to use this account on the class period immediately following Thanksgiving break.

3. Read the essay “Always-On/Always-On-You: The Tethered Self (2007)” by Sherry Turkle. Try to think about ways in which her current position, exemplified in “The Tethered Self” and her recent lectures and public appearances(as seen on previous posts) contrast with the views she expressed in her 1994 essay.

November 7th, 2011 by Meg

The build size for the makerbot is 5″ x 5″ x 5.”

Your model should be created to fit within the printable dimensions.
Make sure that your units are set to either inches or millimeters. To set the units, go to WINDOW -> Model Info. Then select either “decimal” or “fractional” and “inches” or “millimeters” for format.

The minimum recommended wall thickness of hollow forms is 1/16.”

When you are done with your models, export them by going to FILE -> EXPORT -> 3d Model. Select OBJ for format.

Here is a link to some design tips from the Makerbot folks.
