Computational Art Fall 2010 – Iterative Drawing Assignment

August 31st, 2010 by Meg

Your assignment for Mon Sept. 13th is to create three iterative drawings using the techniques we have discussed in class and the recent examples.

When selecting your individual forms and color pallette, think about places where you see repeated forms. Potential reference points for this project are:

biological growth (plant growth, cellular groupings, etc.)

http://www.lumicon.de/wp2/?page_id=494

architecture (aggregates of repeated 3d forms)

mathematical patterns (islamic decoration, lace, fractals, etc)

http://www.unlekker.net/proj/drawingmachine13/index.html

From a technical perspective, your drawing should include(but is not limited to!) usage of the following:

more than 4 colors in your color pallette
svg files (or use a 3d drawing mode)
shape primitives
iteration(for)
rotation
translate();
pdf output

You only need to write one program for this assignment, the drawings should be variations captured from the same basic code.
Your images should be output as pdf files! For this assignment you will be uploading the applet to the server AND the pdf files.

Digital Foundations Fall 2010 – Mac Basics

August 22nd, 2010 by Meg

If this is your first exposure to the Mac operating system, use the following tutorials to familiarize yourself with the interface. We will spend a very limited amount of time introducing the basics of the operating system before jumping into Adobe Illustrator, so it will be helpful for you to complete these tutorials on your own time in order to bring you up to speed. The good news is that the mac operating system is intuitive and easy to use!
